2010-02-18 US Citizenship

The day is finally here! I am finally a citizen of the United States of America!

My oath ceremony took place at the federal court house in downtown Tampa. We got there about 45 minutes before the appointed time (9 AM) just in case. The room opened around 9:15 AM. First the applicants went in, then the families and guests. We signed in and turned in our appointment papers and our Permanent Resident Card (green card). Then we took the oath.

There were 47 people on the paper, 45 showed up. About half did the first oath and the rest did the second oath. I was in the first group. Afterward an attorney gave a speech. She talked about the naturalization of her adopted son, Max.

The whole process took about an hour and a half. Afterward we went to get lunch at the Acropolis, a Greek restaurant in Ybor City. Then we went to the Social Security office to update my Social Security information. Next step is for me to get my US passport and update all my other information. Pretty exciting!

One song came to mind as I stepped out of the court room today...

And I’m proud to be an American!

Mosquitoes love me

My wife's 2008 CR-V's low tire pressure signal was showing on her dashboard. So this evening I was checking it out. Turned out she had a nail in her right-rear tire. The pressure was about 22 PSI (the suggested is 30 for all four tires).

We used a small electric air pump to get the tire pressure back up, so that she can drive the car to get the tire patched tomorrow. While outside doing that, I got bitten by mosquitoes. For some reason, they love me. My wife was there next to me the whole time, and she didn't get bitten once. Crazy!

Soda Can in a Hot Car

My wife had left a can of Diet Pepsi in the car one day. It happened to be quite hot that day. This is what happened. We'll be sure to not leave an unopened soda can in a car again =)

Pumpkin Carving Contest

Jessica and I went to our apartment complex's halloween party on Wednesday. It was a pretty good turn out. Lots of families and kids. They also had a pumpkin carving contest. We entered one (see picture).

We got the design from the internet and free-hand copied it (the eyes and the mouth were a bit off). Who'da thunk we get second place! w00t! The prize was a small basket of candy and a publix gift card. Fun time =)

Anybots

This past summer I had the chance to visit Anybots. There were two robots there. One was focused on the upper body anatomy (second picture). The other was on the lower body (third picture). The video shows the upper body robot being able to balance itself after being pushed.
