2010-02-11 Lightning vs Bruins

Bruins vs Lightning

Loop's partner company gave us some box tickets to the Lightning vs Bruins hockey game tonight.  Eighteen of us went.  We left the office around 6:30pm and got dinner at Moe's.

Most of us weren't really hockey fans.  And the first period wasn't too much fun as the Bruins took a 4-0 lead.  By the middle of the second period we were down 5-0.  Things were looking bad and we were in trouble of getting skunk.  But then things turned around and we scored 2 points in the second period.  And two more in the third.
In the last minutes, everybody was standing up, cheering the Lightning on for an improbable come back story.  Alas, the game ended 5-4.  And we lost.  It turned out to be a much better game than I thought.
Lots of fun.  Thanks Steve!

2010 Full Auto Motor Sports - AutoX

S2000
Alex and I went to the Full Auto Motor Sports event today at the Tropicana Field's parking lot.  We got there around 6:45am.  It was still pretty dark out.  And cold.  The high today was in the 60's.  And it was really windy.  I guess it's much better than being hot and sweaty!

The drivers were split into two types: Grip (groups A, B, C) and Drift (groups D, E, F).  I was in group C.  Group A was for experienced drivers.  They got to go first, while the novice drivers had a quick safety/tip session.  Each group got 4 sessions through out the day.

There were many different types of cars.  The majority of the Drift cars were Nissan 240SX.  There were also a Toyota MR2, a few Nissan 350Zs, and an S2000 (David).  The Grip cars varied a lot more, including cars such as S2000 (mine), 350Z, Mustang, 240SX, RX-7, Corvette, Elise/Exige, and WRX.  There were also some higher end cars such as Corvette Z06, M3, and Viper.  One car that stood out the most was a Miata with a Corvette engine.  He ran for one session and I didn't see him anymore.  Not sure what happened.

In my first session, I drove alone for a few laps and with a professional driver (Drew) for a few laps.  He gave me some pointers, but I think my lack of experience hindered me quite a bit.  Alex joined me in my second session.  It was fun to try different camera angles.

Then we had lunch.  After lunch I ran back home to get my wheel locks so I could change the tires.  I got back to the event just in time for my third session to start.  This time around I had Matt riding with me.  He also drove a couple of laps to show me how I should be driving.  Definitely his driving was way better than mine.  With a bit more experience/lap time and a few extra advice, I felt like my driving was improving.  But alas I got a little ahead of myself and I ended up spinning out (my only time).  Alex joined me for a couple of laps at the end of this session.

Afterward we got my front tires changed by Advance Performance Tires n Wheels. In my fourth and final session, I started off slow because of the new tires.  But i was able to feel the extra grip.  New tire definitely made a big difference.  I could feel the car wasn't trying to break loose as much as before.  My unofficial (aka Alex's stopwatch) fastest lap was 55s.  Before I was averaging about 59s.

2010 Sugar Bowl

Happy New Year!

Jessica and I invited a few friends over for the Sugar Bowl (Florida v Cincinnati).  Bobby and his fiancé Cheryl have been here before, so they got here fine.  Mike and Ben on the other hand relied on Google Map, which incorrectly sent them 7 miles from where we are.  Bing Map got it right.  Google Map couldn't find it.

The game was a blow-out, 51-24.  But nonetheless, being Florida fans, we all enjoyed the game.  Tim Tebow had a phenomenal game. What a way to finish off his college career.

2009 SEC Championship

Today the Florida Gators lost to the Alabama Crimson Tide 32-13 in the SEC Championship game.

Our offense played decent at times, but there were many missed opportunities. But our offensive line played really well, giving Tebow plenty of time. As known all year long, one of our weak spots on the offense is a lack of good, consistent wide receivers.  We had a few good passes, but also a few should'ves. Our defense didn't play well at all. There were a lot of missed tackles and we couldn't stop the offense.

In the middle of the second half, it seemed like some of the players had already given up. Hopefully the Gators can recover from this tough loss, get it together and go into the bowl game with more passion and end the season with a win. Go Gators!

2009 Christmas Decorations

After having nice Thanksgiving and Black Friday, it's time to put up our Christmas decorations.  We spent the morning/early afternoon putting up lights around the house.

Then we took a break to watch the FSU @ UF game.  It was Tim Tebow's final game at the Swamp.  UF won 37-10.

In the evening we put up a Christmas tree in the living room and filled it with ornaments.

2009 UF v FIU

Jessica and I got tickets from our friends Neko and Olivia for the UF-FIU game.  We drove down from Jacksonville to Gainesville in the morning and met up at Nathan and Monica's place.  They had this cool armor piece in the living room.  (Last night Nathan successfully defended his dissertation.  He is now Doctor VanderKraats!  Congratulation!)

Dmitriy came over and we went to get some food then drove over to Ami and Jeremy's house across the street from the stadium.  They were kind enough to let us (and a lot of people) park on their lawn for the game.

We got to our seats a little before the end of the first quarter.  UF was already up by 14 points and Tebow had a 55 rushing TD.  The game was a blow out, but it was good to finally see some offensive fireworks.  Towards the end of the game, I met up with Grant and his wife (forgot to take a picture).  After the game, we went down by the side line, trying hi-five Tebow.  We didn't quite make it, but did get close enough for a video.

After the game, Jessica and I went over to see Olivia.  Then we had dinner at Buddha Belly and drove back to Jacksonville.
